It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

It needed until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not provided the possibility.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to go out there and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was out her side required another 66 at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this triumph coming after win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as skipper.
