Agencies in Tasmania are striving to determine a pink slime that has materialized on a isolated coast, with a number of researchers concerned it could be an algae outbreak.

A marine scientist, who took samples of the magenta ooze in the state, commented it appeared the potential proliferation had "grown significantly" and indicated the aquaculture sector was the most likely culprit, citing like situations overseas.
"Therefore the state needs to deliver a firm alert here, the authorities and the environmental agency need to react to this. We need to analyse the examples we've gathered and we need to inform the people here," she stated.
